October Unit: God Speaks about Obedience
Parent Note:
God speaks…we hear…we follow and obey…God blesses! God uses this pattern all the way through the Bible. As we begin a new unit in preschool and kids Bible Fellowship, we dive into what it means to obey God. Your kids will hear stories of people in the Bible who heard God speak, and they respond in obedience to God. Every day your kids are learning what obedience looks like through you. They see the decisions you make, and they imitate you. They also hear your voice and instructions for them, and your expectation that they follow and obey you. Through you they are learning principles of what relationship with God looks like. You have a weighty job being a parent, but you are not alone. We are here to come alongside you on your journey of discipling your kids!
Joshua and Caleb
Read Numbers 13-14
Today you learned about the remnant of God. The remnant are the people who trust and obey God. God told the Israelites to spy out the land that He was going to give them. A man from each tribe went, 12 in all. Only 2, Joshua and Caleb, believed God could take the land – the remnant. The 10 relied on their own reasoning saying, “We cannot go up against those people who are too strong for us.” How often do we too rely on our own reasoning and strength living a defeated life. God calls us to a different life – a life of obedience. Joshua and Caleb looked at the impossible situation before them and believed God. We learn every day in small ways about obedience. In those small ways, God develops us to learn how to trust Him. It is amazing how learning to trust God in small ways through daily life prepares us for facing harder experiences in the future.
This week as a family memorize scripture together. When we hide God’s Word in our hearts, God uses His Word in our everyday life to remind us of what is true. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 is our theme verse this year, and it reminds us that through God’s Word God speaks, and we can obey.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
