Christmas in August is a Southern Baptist summertime tradition. This year will mark the 83rd for churches to shower gifts on missionaries and agencies to help spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
The 2010 campaign will benefit the Freeda Harris Baptist Center on the banks of Marrowbone Creek in Pike County.
Missionaries Greg & Alice Whitetree have served with the North American Mission Board for 41 years. For 27 years they have operated the center, which has a mission of reaching families for Christ by proclaiming the message of salvation and ministering to physical and emotional needs. Programs include a food pantry, clothing closet, counseling, GED classes, literacy classes, vacation Bible schools, day camps and health fairs.
This month, we will collect the items listed below that have been requested by the Whitetrees. The couple will share their ministry with us at a Christmas in August service here on Wednesday, Aug. 25 and take the gifts home with them.
Please place your gifts in the container in the area between the Family Life Center and the Old Fellowship Hall. Checks made out to FBC Russell and designated for Christmas in August are also appreciated.
