Upward Basketball
Upward Basketball is an evangelistic sports ministry designed to promote community outreach, develop volunteer leadership, and share the love of Christ with children and their families, using something as simple as a basketball. Unlike school-sponsored sports teams, Upward has a substitution system where all players are allowed equal playing time and equal opportunity for improvement. They encourage each player with a game day award following every game. Players are exposed to scripture-based devotions during each practice. During halftime at each game, devotions are planned for the spectators. In addition, participants and parents are given an opportunity to respond to the gospel at an end-of-season Awards Night. Upward Basketball registration begins in mid-October, practice begins in December, and games start in January. Contact Tina Sparks if you’re interested in serving in this ministry.
